5 Tips to Treat Your Sunburn
Finally you get some time off, and you live near the beach! Your friends have invited you over several times but until now, you’ve been busy all the time. You put on your cutest bikini and head out, unaware of the grave mistake you've just made. What fun you’ve had; now it’s about time you head back home. What’s this? You have a slight burning sensation on your skin. You touch it and it hurts even more. Your skin is visibly darker. What happened?
My dear, it is a sunburn.
Anyone can get sunburnt and everyone should know how to treat it. Here are a few tips on how to deal with this situation:
1. Use Cold Water Wraps
‘Wrapping’ or compressing the skin when it is inflamed usually takes away the heat from the burn and helps in healing. Take some cold water and a piece of cloth or towel. Dip the cloth or towel in the cold water and place it on the sunburnt area. It is recommended that this treatment should be repeated two to three times every day and the duration the cloth or towel should be on the skin should be about 20 minutes or at least till the cloth gets warm.
Your skin has been burnt and it needs to be treated and repaired. Wraps will help with healing but will make the skin end up looking drier. To prevent this, you could instead just use moisturizer. Something you could do to make the healing faster is to cool the temperature of the moisturizer. You can do this by putting it within the freezer or fridge for a couple minutes. To further add to the healing process, you can use an Aloe Vera infused moisturizer.
3. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is perhaps the easiest and fastest way to treat sunburn. You can use Aloe Vera infused products, but using the plant is the best recommendation. You can grab Aloe Vera from any supermarket and even grow some on your own, as it’s very easy to grow. Cut off a few long pieces of the plants and for added efficiency, you can put it in the fridge to make it cooler. Once all of that is out of the way, you should cut the plant in slices, take one of the slices and apply it on the affected area. Treatments should be repeated 2-3 times a day. You’ll notice your skin peeling off, but don’t worry about that. It’s natural and is supposed to happen; so just let it happen.
4. Stay Hydrated
If you aren’t hydrated, you’ll find yourself feeling tired in the middle of the day and just fatigued overall. This is because of your sunburn. Stay hydrated!
This is perhaps the most essential tip. If you’re out in the sun for long hours without using sunblock, your chances of getting skin cancer rise up considerably. Try to avoid getting sunburns altogether by using sunblock that is at least SPF-15 to prevent any harmful UV rays that might cause skin damage.
Make plans with your buddies to the beach or anywhere else. Have as much fun as you can and cherish those wonderful moments. But don’t let one small mistake of yours ruin your vacation. Follow the tips provided above to avoid getting sunburnt and to maximum your plans with friends.
