Make-Up Tips for Oily Skin

No woman enjoys walking around with melting foundation and a shiny face that’s slathered in oil. Unfortunately the vast majority of ladies deal with complications regarding oily skin and keeping make-up in place. Make-up on oily skin can be tricky due to the oils lifting make-up products and making them melt away. Oily skin is caused by over-generation of sebum (oil) from the sebaceous glands. Our bodies naturally generate oils to keep our skin healthy and lubricated; however, imbalances in hormones along with genetic predispositions can lead to too much sebum secretion. Generating too many oils, not only make foundations difficult to wear, it also leads to skin problems such as acne. If you have oily skin it’s vital that you use the correct products in order to avoid the shine, and control breakouts. Utilizing quality skin care and make-up products will make all the difference when it comes to concealing your imperfections and looking your best throughout the whole day.

Wash Thoroughly
Washing your skin thoroughly before applying makeup is essential with regards to your make-up looking right and staying on. Remove unwanted dead skin cells from the surface of the skin with the use of a good exfoliating scrub 1-2 times a week. Use a facial cleanser with salicylic acid to clean pores and avoid acne inflammation. Facial cleansers that contain salicylic acid will also aid in ridding your skin of the excess oils. Products that contain salicylic acid are great for oily, problematic skin due to its potency against breakouts. However, it can be overly drying, and must be paired with a good moisturizer. Choose an oil-free moisturizer that isn’t too thick, lighter formulas such as gel based moisturizers are great for oily skin.

Always use a Primer
Primer is especially important for those with problematic skin as it works as a protective barrier to seal in and protect any treatment products used during your skin care regimen. Primer also help with evening out the skin tone and making your makeup last much longer throughout the day! Look for an oil-free shine controlling primer for best results.

Tips on Foundation
There are three types of foundations that work great for those with an oily skin type. The first is an oil free liquid foundation. Liquid foundations that are oil-free offer a sheer to medium coverage without making you look caked! Your second option is a powder compact. This type of foundation is low in oils and moisturizers so it doesn’t clog up pores, lowering the risk of breakouts. Powder compacts offers a sheer to medium coverage, and is extremely convenient for mid-day touch ups. The last option is a pigmented mineral powder. Mineral powders are oil free, and contain vitamins and minerals which make it great for sensitive skin. Mineral powders offer medium to full coverage, be sure not to apply too much at once, as it can cause your face to look cakey. Avoid foundations in the form of crèmes, mousses, and sticks; these are much too thick and better suited for those with a dry skin type.

Getting make-up to look flawless all day can be tricky for those with oil skin, but like anything there are always ways around it! Use exfoliating scrubs and facial cleansers that contain salicylic acid paired with a light, oil-free moisturizer. Thorough cleaning and moisturizing will help control the excess sebum on your face. Never skip primer! Although primer looks invisible and might feel like just another step in your daily make-up routine, its protective qualities will do your skin wonders. You’ll also notice that when u apply primer as a base, your foundation holds on longer and looks better! Choosing the right foundation is vital for a shine-free flawless look. Choose oil free foundations that come in the form of liquids, or powders, and shy away from thicker formulas such as crèmes and mousses. Carry around oil blotting sheets or powder for easy shine control during the day!
